Do you think Apple will kill the iPod Classic?

Dear CNET members,

I don't remember the last time I saw an iPod Classic. I went to the Apple store Web site just to make sure Apple was still making these, and viola, they are still for sale! But for how long, that is the question. With more and more people moving to cloud storage and online streaming or music, does it still make sense for Apple to keep the iPod Classic in production? Sure, the iPod Classic can store a boatload of music, it's really simple to use, and it has great battery life, but as companies move toward subscription-based models and cloud storage for music, the days of the iPod could be over before we know it.

So, do you think the iPod Classic is headed for the chopping block? Why or why not? Do you still use an iPod Classic? If you do, what would you do without it? Do you even care if it's removed from Apple's product line? If you do care, tell us why Apple should keep it. Before you sound off, read CNET contributor Steve Guttenberg's blog post, "When will Apple kill the iPod?" and join the rest of your fellow community members and tell us how you would feel if Apple were to kill the iPod Classic.

(Note: There will be no community newsletter this coming Friday (4/5) as I will be taking a vacation with the family. Until I get back, be safe out there!)

"I have over 100G of music (compressed to fit on the ipod) and I still use my ipod 5G every day or two. It's my backup for my library and until bandwidth is unlimited, cloud streaming isn't going to work for someone who listens to as much music as I do..."  Read more

"I use my iPod every day. Until streaming music catches up with the high quality of physical storage music players and streams for free minus commercials, I do not see a need to upgrade. I do own an iPhone here in Japan, 64GB model. Since it is not compatible..."   Read more

"I can't remember the last time I bought a CD or a mp3 song. I use Spotify which enables me to listen to any music that I want, anywhere. It allows me to download any song I want on either my iMac, Android phone, Windows 8 phone or PC and listen to it offline..."   Read more

"I could not imagine not having my 160 GB iPod classic. I listen to it every day, all day. I agree with everyone here. This is the only device that has the capacity I require. Not to mention the user interface we all know and enjoy! My library right now (after a good cleaning out) sits at..."  Read more
