Does it make sense to buy a PC with a touch screen?

Dear CNET members,

Touch screens on smartphones make perfect sense. And how could you use a tablet without one?! But what about touch screens on traditional desktops or laptops? Personally, I can see how a touch screen makes sense on a convertible (hybrid) laptop since it's used more like a tablet than a traditional laptop, running many apps for which using a touch screen just makes sense. However, on a traditional laptop or desktop computer where more complex software programs are used, well, I don't see any real added benefits, especially since my desktops are used mainly for work and not entertainment. But again that's just my opinion.

In the latest blog post by CNET contributor Rick Broida, titled, "Does it make sense to buy a PC with a touch screen?" he goes into detail about why he thinks touch screens on traditional PCs don't add value to the overall experience, and he even suspects that the touch screen diminishes battery life on his laptop. So give Rick's post a read and when you are done, tell us, do you agree with his personal opinion? Or do you think differently and think that touch screens are useful and add value to a PC? Bottom line, if you love or hate it or fall somewhere in between, join the conversation because we want to hear what you have to say!

"To answer the question of does it make sense to get a touchscreen PC, I'd say that it does. Even if you don't think you have much use for it now, touch-friendly interfaces are probably only going to become more common..."   Read more

"It depends entirely on who you are, what kind of computer user you are, and what specifically you do on your computer. If your a computer consumer, and spend most of your time staying "connected" to your Facebook and Google Plus friends, checking your email and uploading..."   Read more
